Inspired by a true story, Moondance Alexander follows its title character(Kay Panabaker) a spirited teen living with her eccentric mother (LoriLoughlin). Moondance is faced with another uneventful summer until shediscovers a lost pinto ponynamed Checkers who has jumped out of his paddock.Although she returns the horse to his rightful owner, the gruff andmysterious Dante Longpre, Moondance is convinced thatCheckers is a champion jumper in disguise and is determined to help himrealize his full potential. She manages to talk Dante into training her andCheckers for the Bow Valley Classic and despite the criticism of hernemesis, Fiona; discovers that perseverance, loyalty andindividuality can land you in the winner’s circle.
