The TEP Graduate Council considers the applicant for selection into the Teaching Credential Program. This process includes consideration of the applicant's file and preassessment information. Selection into the Teaching Credential Program is based on the applicant's match with the program goals, the Bethany University environment, the Christian community, and the professional judgment of the applicant's success as a potential classroom teacher as stipulated by the requirements of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Graduate Council conducts applicant selections as completed applications are received. Applications received following the priority deadlines will be considered on a "first come-first served" basis, or placed on a waiting list.Bethany University reserves the right to deny any applicant for any reason it may consider valid. An applicant may appeal for reconsideration, but reasons for decisions are not disclosed.Subject Matter Competency. The State of California requires candidates seeking a teaching credential to prove subject matter competency. The prospective teacher must take the required exam for either teaching high school (single Subject Teaching Credential) or for teaching elementary school (Multiple Subject Teaching Credential). There are different approved exams for different subject areas and credentials. Please see the Teacher Education Program Office for information and booklets on the various exams. Please see the major advisor for details on which courses would best prepare you to pass the respective subject matter competency exams.
